Introducing Our Special Guest

Dr. Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr. Armpit, is a senior research fellow at Ghent University, Belgium, specializing in the skin microbiome and metabolome in both health and disease. As a leading microbiome researcher, he has pioneered skin microbiome transplantation and skin bacteriotherapy to develop innovative solutions for body odor treatment.
His research extends to indigenous microbiomes, including field studies with the Yanomami hunter-gatherers in the Brazilian rainforest, helping to uncover how skin flora balance differs across populations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Callewaert led groundbreaking work in training sniffer dogs to detect COVID-19 from human sweat with an accuracy of over 95%.
Beyond his laboratory research, Dr. Callewaert is a junior board member of the European Society for Dermatological Research and an advocate for microbiome-friendly skincare. His TEDx talk on microbiome science has inspired discussions on the importance of good bacteria in skin health, and his work is featured at DrArmpit.com, where he shares insights on the future of microbiome research and dermatology.
